  • 1) A Virtual Consultation

    by J. White on March 03 2005
    5 stars  90+ helpful votes

Dr. Denese goes over every beauty concern and offers recommendations. It was like having a virtual consultation! I got my own questions answered and more. A wonderful bonus was her eating plan and suggested list of supplements.

It was refreshing to read a beauty book not promoting one magic ingredient or product. Dr. Denese offers the most current scientific knowledge on beauty in a very readable style. I couldn't put the book down and kept taking notes on things I wanted to try. Highly recommended for anyone interested in anti aging or beauty.

  • 2) Great, Effective Skin Care

    by M. Otero on July 08 2005
    5 stars  50+ helpful votes

My mom bought this book, at the time I was having recurring skin problems (which was normal for me)she showed it to me and I couldn't put it down.
The next day I bought one for myself - I saw a dramatic difference in the appearance and texture of my skin, in one week - without her products.

I began taking only the fish oil (because vitamins are so $$$ - and finding the ones she reccommends isn't easy) noticed a major difference in my overall skin moisture levels and the soft manageable quality to my hair.

I then purchased her products on QVC - and the results are amazing. For me, i had acne as kid an thought that it would simply disappear as I matured, not so - i had dry skin and clogged pores and outbreaks around my mouth. The dermatologist would give me a series of antibiotics, but after that, it was going right back to "delicate" products that clogged my pores, his advice paled to the information I received in this book. (and for a lot less money)

For people with problem skin, this book should be required reading. It explains skin from the inside out - and isn't merely about "feel good products". Dr Denese is honest, helpful and most of all her scientific approach is (continuosly) effective.

by CheaperChapters on November 08 2005

I thought this was a great book, but I found that it was very difficult to affordably get all the supplments that she recommends. As for the vitamins, I found that Nature's Made Anti Oxidant Packs, which are currently on Drugstore.com (7.99), get you most of the way there. In addition, I have added the Nature Made Balance B Complex, Nature's Bounty Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc (Chelated) & again Nature Made Co enzyme Q-10. That pretty much gets you all the vitamins and minerals, even though you still have to buy the fish oil, pycogenol (sp?).

  • 4) Fantastic book, Fabulous Skin Care Line

    by J. Whitford on April 03 2006
    5 stars  50+ helpful votes

I bought this book (and the DVD of the PBS Special) after watching the Dr. Denese during pledge week on PBS; I use her defense day cream (SPF 30) and amazing exfoliating facial pads faithfully. Both products are wonderful. As I finish up the current line of cosmetics I am using, I am moving into her skin care line.

The book is quite an eye opener. First and foremost, she does not pad it with filler. She gives you the true scoop on Growth Hormones, middle age hormones, menopausal skin, botox, fake botox - you name it, she gives you the hard hitting truth to products and services we all fall prey to.

She provides information for every type of skin - normal, dry, combination, oily, etc. From the lightest to the darkest complexion, she chronicles every problem and its solution.

Dr. Denese also provides some interesting facts on diets and stress and the impact to our skin. Some things are basic, but some of the information regarding blood insulin regulation was new to me.

Dr. Denese chronicles her own mistakes in caring for her skin, as well as patients who come to her clinic.

I truly believe this is the best written and most up to date book on skin care right now. And I believe her line of skin care can work for everyone.

Her complete skin care line is sold on QVC and on various internet sites.

I highly recommend her products, this book and the PBS Special DVD which is also sold on Amazon.

  • 5) Nice, Easy Read

by Samantha Jones on May 15 2005
    4 stars  40+ helpful votes

This book was written with easy to follow dialog not common in most medical books. I was able to read it in an afternoon. Dr. Denese gives great adivce on diet, supplements and facial products. I did purchase one of her starter kits on QVC with sample sizes of 6 products, I am really happy with the results.

The price of following Dr. Denese's advice is not cheap, I estimated $300 per month for all the products and supplements recommended.

After completing the book, I am left with some questions.
How can get all of the supplements recommeded without taking 15 pills a day?
There is no age specific advise, is a 30 year old supposed to follow the exact same regamine as a women twice her age?

  • 6) A behind the scene's view of the cosmetic industry

    by M. Young on April 01 2005
    4 stars  40+ helpful votes

I heard about Dr. Denese's book through PBS. The author is knowledgeable and and well credentialed to write the book. The book seems to be a legitimate attempt to dispel many myths about skin care and help people to have better skin. One of which is that there is no one magical crème. She provides a behind-the-scene's view of the cosmetic industry and it isn't pretty.

She has a six step process: 1) cleansing 2) exfoliating 3) skin-stimulating, 4) skin building, 5) skin sealing, 6) sunscreen.

However, the book seems to encourage using Dr. Denese's products. She lists a few competitor's products, but the competitor's products she lists are more expensive than her own products. So any reader committed to following Dr. Denese's system would logically buy Dr. Denese's products because her products are exactly what she recommends and cheaper than the listed alternatives. Because of that, it seems that the book is geared to help Dr. Denese sell her product line. The author is very bright; it is a very soft sell, but a very logical sell to any person committed to improving their skin condition.

FYI, Dr. Denese's products are available on eBay.

Overall, I thought it was a good book. I am a man and skin care is relatively new to me. It is a huge step for me to start wearing sunscreen on a daily basis, but I am committed to it since I now realize how much harm the sun does to our skin.

  • 7) Best Ever Beauty Book

by jeanne on April 12 2005
    5 stars  40+ helpful votes

Dr. Denese lays out a truly terrific road map to beautiful skin. In a no-nonsense way, this easy-to-follow guide tells you what products you should use on your skin, why, and exactly how to use them. She names easy-to-find brands in addition to her own formulations. A special bonus is her terrific diet and supplement plan. Again, it's easy to understand, easy to live with. She tells you what to eat, what not to eat and why. And, very helpful, where to find the supplements. Even more important, for those so inclined, she doesn't just tell you what to do. She details, the science behind her programs. And she's got that down cold. A brilliant scientist, she was lecturing at Harvard Medical School even before she entered medical school at Cornell. Buy the book. Try the programs. Your reward will be a more beautiful skin and you will probably feel a whole lot better, too. I know. It's worked for me.

If you have skin you MUST read this book. As a 57 year old women I have reached the age of HELP ME PLEASE...That is exactly what Dr. Denese has spent her life studing. The dedication and love for people and skin care shows in each and every page of this book. I have also used her products which are availible on QVC and in my opinion only a face lift could work better!! • 9) The definitive guide to help fight aging - a MUST READ!!!

by Sharon Lundstrom on March 11 2005
    5 stars  30+ helpful votes

Dr Denese is a brilliant scientist, physician and author. Her approach to anti-aging is all-encompassing. It's not just skincare, it's not just diet, it's everything as a whole. In this amazing book, she explains what you need to do to fight the effects of aging, and she does it in her comprehensive, easy to read, conversational way. She explains what ingredients do what in skincare and in diet supplements, which are so hard to keep straight (which peptide does what? what's a peptide, anyway? Dr Denese explains it all!)!! This book will never be far from my reach -- I've been using her phenomenal skincare for over two years and people remark on my "perfect", "flawless" skin all the time. I owe that to Dr Denese's skincare and her ability to explain exactly why we need certain ingredients and why others could be a waste of time and money. She doesn't promote her products (like so many authors do these days), but gives suggestions for products (even her competition's!). This is a must read for anyone who wants to improve their quality of life and successfully fight the aging process (ok, we can't WIN, but we can put up a good fight!). It's a must read for anyone who takes supplements. It's a must read for anyone who uses skincare. This book not only educates, but it's entertaining as well!

  • 10) Amazing information and wonderful story

by Paula M. Block on March 13 2005
    5 stars  20+ helpful votes

This book by Dr. Denese was a really special surprise. I expected a "skin instruction" and instead recieved valuable, scientific information about how my skin works and what it will respond to. I have used Dr. Denese's products for almost a year and I can tell you that they are, in fact, miraculous... my skin once again glows and I can be seen without make-up.
This book is also the story of a journey taken by a brave, amazing woman who is kind and generous enough to share not only her skin care secrets, but also some of the information about her private journey that proves that anything is possible!
Thank you for sharing, Dr. Denese...you are an inspiration!

  • 11) I LOVED this book!!

by Anita Blackburn on March 10 2005
    5 stars  20+ helpful votes

I found Dr. Denese's book very interesting. I loved her honest approach to skin care and learning more about her. She doesn't just tell you how to treat your skin on the outside, but how to take care of it from the inside out. It was easy to read and follow her advice. It reads like you are talking with her in person.

Even if you don't use her products you will benefit from this book. It is very informative. It isn't a book just touting her products. She is very honest about what works and what doesn't.
I really believe she wants the best for her customers.

    Such a brilliant lady.

    Sincerely
    Anita

  • 12) catch her presentation during PBS pledge week

by DOK on March 06 2005
    5 stars  20+ helpful votes

Like Perricone, Denese has hooked up with PBS and created a TV special to explain her skin care program (and tout her book). They're showing it in the spring 2005 pledge-a-thon. It's a credible, scientific-sounding program incorporating many of the latest ideas in aging and skin care. It's also practical and reasonably achievable by the average busy person. Please note that I haven't finished reading the book yet, and therefore am speaking prematurely. But you might benefit just as much from watching the TV program, and that might help you evaluate the value of her approach to you before you invest in the book.

  • 13) Good book and good products

    by k_a_od on June 27 2006
    4 stars  20+ helpful votes

I saw her on the PBS special, read the reviews of this book on Amazon.com, and bought the most expensive PBS package which included this book, some of her products, and DVD. I felt her book did have useful information in it, although I was personally disapointed that she did not recommend a specific solution for the dark undereye circles I suffer from. What was most interesting in her book was that she explains how the cosmetic companies work, and how it is that even though they are including the latest ingredients in their products, their products still wind up ineffective due to being present in amounts to low to do anything. Also of interest is that she does recommend products of *other* companies; not just her own products. She sincerely seems like she wants to help everyone stop the aging of their skin. Personally, I have suffered from female late onset adult cystic acne, for which I took Accutane about 7 years ago. The Accutane effect has somewhat worn off and I do have cystic acne from time to time. I can honestly say that I think her products have made my skin feel the best of any cleanser that I have used to date. My skin has felt more consistently soft. It has not solved my acne problem, but I suspect that it has helped. I have also had a couple microdermobrasions and a micropeel this year, and I do believe that this has helped with some fine lines and helped to diminish the lingering red marks from acne.

This is actually more than a great beauty book, it's an instruction manual for skin care. Dr. Denese has got it figured out with science. Highly recommend it. She covers just about every issue from wrinkles to acne. Read this book and find yourself on the way to better skin.

Dr. Denese's book is elegantly written and intelligently conceived. She has a comprehensive knowledge of her subject and conveys it with great authority. This book is an absolut MUST READ for anyone interested in looking healthier and feeling better. I have now read it twice and am trying to follow all of her advice -- and people have already started to notice changes in my complexion! I think I look younger already.

    by K. Hoang on December 16 2006

Background: was former skin model, had skin like a baby... pink & flawless most of my life without doing much.

This year, I had a lot of stress, bad diet, so I collected 10 pimples and skin felt flakey and dry and itchy underneath no matter what fancy lotion I put on it. Read this book and tried it for 3 days and it works. The education is worth every penny!

After reading the book, I incorporated the exfoliation and serums and almost getting my old skin back in just 3 days! 4 weeks from now I will be flawless again at 38 yrs old. People mistaken me for 26 because of my skin.

I used my existing products & bought the 10% glyc toner: cetaphil cleanser, Elemis ginseng toner, then exfoliate w. DDF 10% glycolic toner, then used a thin serum, and a thicker serum B. Kamins, and sometimes put lotion over this but since I felt there's enough moisture already, I'll skip the lotion.

Surprisingly, piling all these on do not cause breakouts and leaves skin very hydrated underneath and not tight and itchy & got rid of my blackheads. Thanks Dr. Denese for saving my skin, time, money, & health!

I love this book. It is amazing how Dr. Denese has made it so
easy to understand anti-aging skincare. She explains why and how we age and gives us specific steps on how to fight the aging process. This is a must read for anyone interested in
looking and feeling their absolute best. I used to think it
it was going to be all downhill after 35 now I know I can keep
looking great by following the simple steps outlined by Dr.
    Denese.I can't wait to get started.Thank you Dr.D. Forever a fan.

Finally science has accomplished something all of us can benefit from. Dr Denese made it easy to understand not only what we need to do to look and feel younger, but why it works. This will make a great Mother's Day gift

  • 19) Informative

by Gina on January 24 2007
    4 stars  10+ helpful votes

I found Dr. Denese's book to be refreshingly open and honest about marketing schemes, labeling falacies and product claims. I found the information very useful in choosing a daily face regimen. Dr. Denese in no way endorses her own products, she merely allows you to find out what your skin type/age needs are and guides you on what to look for in your facial products, that will work for you. I have tried many products over the years and found very few that do what they claim to do, now I understand why, a specific ingredient that would allow such results would actully have to be used in greater amounts. But because there are no regulations on cosmetics,as long as the ingredient is listed on the bottle they can make the claim that the ingredient works in in their product. What they don't tell you is that it is only in trace amounts in most cases, which is why we don't receive the predicted benefits of their products. If you are serious about your skin I would recommend this book.

  • 20) Finally, Someone has got it! Dr. Denese is fabulous

    by Marie D on January 18 2007
    5 stars  10+ helpful votes

I got the book from the library and then decided I had to have it. I am former skin therapist and fully agree with Dr. D's program of combining science with natural substances but even moreso with the Serums. They are the only thing that can penetrate past the layers of the skin. No lotions, or expensive products will no matter what they say. Sometimes I even believe their claims, they're that good. I have to stop myself. I've also been using Dr. D's products for 6 months now and will never go back to my other professionalproducts. I look foreward to fully doing her nutrition program in the future. Get this book you won't be sorry if you care about your skin/health. She explains everything in easy to understand methods without giant terminoogy. Marie
